WAR IS HELL
War is hell, in every sense of the word and it does not help that our politicians sugar coat it. In the tragic and unfortunate death of Eric Garner, during his arrest by the New York Police, we have witnessed on the news lately that the talking heads were quite dismayed that the police have to actually lay their hands on someone to make an arrest. Take this mindset to a higher level, Senator Dianne Feinstein and company after giving the CIA direct instructions to proceed with every effort to pursue those responsible for the 911 terror attack that involved with loss of 2,996 lives and $10 Billion in property damage, were shocked to find out 3 people were water boarded. I wonder, did Dianne Feinstein forget what happened on September 11th, 2001? President Obama opinion is that we went too far in the methods used to pursue America’s enemies. Heres a news flash, the American Constitution has never applied to foreigners and America has always gone balls to the wall in pursuit of their enemies, that has been the rule since day one. If at this stage of the game they want to change the rules, they can, but I would take a careful look at how successful America’s uncompromising policies have worked in the past and consider America probably has never faced a bigger threat than the Jehad it faces now. Obama and the Democrats of today do not like a lot of things about America, both internally and externally and are actively pursuing all the changes they can. They want an America that is not exceptional, they want an America that is as socialistic or more socialistic than Europe. It would not surprise me if a good number of them prefer Communism as their ultimate goal. Look back in history, look around the world today tell me where any of these Socialist or Communist ideas have worked. If America has been doing it wrong for 200 years why is America the most successful country in the world today? We have been told about the difficulty in training the Iraqi Army to fight for their country. President Barrack Obama’s administration and his military experts are telling us it will take years to train the Iraqi army to the level where they would be an effective fighting force. I understand that modern warfare and the equipment use today is not quickly learned, but that has little to do with fighting and fighting is what war is all about. I wonder what the talking heads would say about a videotaped encounter depicting hand to hand combat in the rubble of some middle eastern town. If they were shocked to learn police actually wrestle with people, wouldn’t they be surprised to learn what soldiers do? In Dante’s Inferno he listed the levels of hell according to what sinners deserved, the worst sinners were traders for betrayal of their liege lords or today we would say their country, they were at the bottom of hell. Using this example the first level of “war is hell” would be shooting someone from a distance, or worse yet, being shot, the next level would be hand to hand combat, someone at your throat trying to injure or kill you anyway they can and your are doing the same, how horrific would that be? That would be war. Then you ramp that up to the, the next level, thousands to millions of deaths and that many more permanent disabilities, loss of arms legs, eyesight, spinal core injuries. Solders in combat living in stark terror of being injured and killed for days on end with little to no sleep. Then there are the support personnel who are tasked with picking up and caring for the broken shattered bodies. Those who behind the lines just direct the action, they seem pretty safe, in their comfortable abode, clean clothes, well fed, hot & cold running water, but they have to live with the hard decisions and often the mistakes they will make where lives will be lost and relatives will have to be notified, that is something many of the support personnel will have a hard time living with for the rest of their lives. So you get that war is hell, but why are the political leaders and military experts telling us is that the reason the Iraqi Army failed was lack of training, when the real answer is the lack of motivation to fight. No matter how skilled a soldier, he will not be every effective if he does not want to fight. Where is the lie? It is the fact that they don’t need to train the Iraqi Army in technical skills to win the war they need to do something that non-warriors have no stomach for, they have to motivate them to fight. With an inferior army with little training and equipment Stalin motivated the Russian army to fight and eventually defeat the superiorly equipped and trained German Army. Russian soldiers charged into German lines without rifles they were tasked to pick up the rifles off the soldiers who were killed in front of them. The Japanese before WWII were civilised people who came from a mostly urban environment, they became fierce jungle fighters and a particularly brutal army. That was because of the type of training they received, as you can imagine it was as brutal as they wanted those Japanese soldiers to be. The French Foreign Legion I am sure are well trained and equipped, but they were not always, the reason other fighters do not want to come up against them is that they know Legionnaires are volunteers who are enthusiastic about killing people. When a person goes through basic training in the the U.S. Army or Marine Corp. that training is more about teaching those people to be warriors. A Marine has to be conditioned to follow orders without question. If a Marine will not do that there is no way you are going to get him to charge into live enemy fire. I believe the Green Berets are especially tasked to be able to take this type of training to people in remote places and teach them to fight against modern armies. If the Green Berets can do that in remote jungles why can’t they do it in a city like Bagdad? ISIL is touted as being a well equipped, skilled army, maybe so, but they also use Western volunteers as cannon fodder, which is an old and reliable tactic used in every major war, certainly from WWI on. You know ISIL is all out about fighting. How much training did it take for them to climb into those abandon tanks and drive them off to war? I am not suggesting I know what to do in the matters relating to the Middle East or the terrorism threat Western countries face today, I am just pointing out the politicians in charge today either have no clue or no stomach for what needs to be done to solve either problem.
